Zoning
Purpose
Zoning helps protect public and private interests, preserve critical areas, promote orderly growth, and encourage development to occur at a rate and manner that the community desires.

Enforcement
In Wisconsin, zoning authority is granted to all different types of governmental bodies: counties, cities, towns, and villages. The Village of Richfield has adopted and enforces its own local zoning ordinance. The zoning ordinances found in Chapter 70 of the village code organizes the community into different districts. Within each district, specific uses are permitted subject to certain requirements.

Zoning Code
The village is fortunate to have its own zoning code to use as a tool to permit development in a fashion that is compatible with the local rural setting. Richfield's zoning ordinance follows a traditional model that seeks to segregate uses by type and establishes dimensional requirements related to lot size, setbacks, building heights, and other similar requirements.
